Georginio Wijnaldum had seemed destined to move to Barcelona since it became clear that he would not renew his contract with Liverpool, but it is Paris Saint-Germain who have nipped in at the last minute.
The Dutch midfielder, having been offered a far more lucrative wage packet by the French club compared to the one proposed by Barcelona, appears to be off to Paris.
In the end, Wijnaldum has opted for the wealth of PSG ahead of the sporting project that Barcelona had tempted him with.
Wijnaldum is now set for a PSG medical, after talks with Mauricio Pochettino and a serious offer on the table.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Wijnaldum’s contract has been doubled by PSG’s offer and that, if Barcelona do not make an improved offer, he will sign for the Ligue 1 runners up.
